A secondary principal, Mrs. Juba F.O, has been reported to the Department of State Security (DSS) for not permitting Muslim pupils in her school to participate in the ongoing Ramadan fast.

Juba, the Principal of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta International School (FUNIS), allegedly denied some boarding students of the opportunity to fulfil their religious obligation in the holy month of Ramadan.

A parent, whose children were among those affected, Abd-Semiu Aderemi petitioned the DSS over the matter through his lawyer, Agboke Muti.

According to the July 17 dated petition, the principal had refused to shift ground on the 'religious neutrality' of the school, even after a visit from Mr. Aderemi.

The petition further stated that, irrespective of religious backgrounds, students of the institution are forced to attend Christian themed events like Christmas Carols.

"“Most important to note is the fact that irrespective of the students’ and parents’ religious inclination, attendance at such Christmas carol is not optional but extremely compulsory.

It was therefore argued that the claims of religious neutrality was untrue given that parents are forced to pay for such religious activities.

"The Muslim parents have paid several times for the Christian Carol for their children and in these periods of payment nobody talked of religious neutrality," Muti said in the statement quoted by a Daily Independent report.

Muti concluded that Juba's action is a deliberate abuse of the rights of the Muslim children which can lead to chaos.

The Minister of Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, were among those copied in the letter.

Fasting during the month of Ramadan, from dawn to sunset, is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and it is observed by Muslims all around the world.

The 2014 Ramadan fast commenced on Sunday 29th of June and will end on Sunday 27th of July.

Kriz says:

Christians lie when they claim they are more confident than they really are: The author says Christians pretend a lot because they feel their "witness" will be less powerful if they reveal a less than "perfect" religious experience but in most cases non- Christians love to hear stories of authentic and a struggling faith.
Christians lie when they claim that unexplainable things are in fact explainable: The author says that instead of trying to explain things like the existence of the trinity, a Christian should just say "These ideas are so beyond me that if God did reveal them to me, I am pretty sure my brain would explode."
Christians lie when they don't acknowledge the doubts within the drama of faith: The author says that when another person challenges a Christian with a difficult theological/philosophical issue, sometimes it is best to just admit that those questions are very challenging and even emotionally taxing on the soul.
Christians lie when they pretend like the Bible doesn't say some really nasty things when in fact it does: He cited an example in Psalms 137:9 which says "Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks.
Christians lie when they claim we understand other beliefs, faiths and world views: He says Christians should stop saying things like "I understand Islam," or, "I know what a Muslim thinks/believes." Because belief systems in the world are extremely diverse.
